Title: When is BGE2 going to be released?
Description: If and when...

MrStalker - February 17, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)
Well, since we don't even have an announcement, we're just guessing here. I just thought it would be nice to know what you guys think :P

Q1 - January to March
Q2 - April to June
Q3 - July to September
Q4 - October to December

Alexa - February 17, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
Later than the latest. I think it'll come out together with Euro 2012. (Read - never. :P )

BTW, topic moved to BG&E Chat, since I think it's more adequate here. Correct me, if I'm wrong.

G.A.Pster - February 18, 2008 07:33 AM (GMT)
Then end of 2009.

Fomorian - February 18, 2008 10:42 AM (GMT)
I'd say the third quarter of 2009. It's way before Christmas, when the most hyped titles come out (therefore giving trouble surviving for the least known titles), and in the end of the weak months (when nothing worth trying really comes out) - most gamers are then more willing to try out something new.

Luke-54 - February 18, 2008 03:18 PM (GMT)
IMO this game will never be relased.

BG&E Voyager - February 18, 2008 04:04 PM (GMT)
Late 2009 i'd say as well. Who knows how more popular BG&E will get.

Luke-54 - February 18, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
Anyway, We'll see.

Don’t be so pessimistic. If Ancel won’t make it we’ll make it.

I'm not a pesimist, I'm a realist.

Well there are a myriad of obstacles in our way of making a sequel, so i'll trust that Ubi will wise up.

Kuromeru - February 24, 2008 01:46 PM (GMT)
If they are already working on it, then i think that game will be released in 2009 Q3. But if Ancel is making other game in the moment, then who knows in 2012 maybe <_<

Nimitz_3d - February 24, 2008 02:47 PM (GMT)
I think they are working on BG&E since a while, we just have to wait for ubidays :D.

Kuromeru - February 24, 2008 02:58 PM (GMT)
So we must wait to May. I hope that Ubi won't dissapoint me.

Luke-54 - February 24, 2008 03:11 PM (GMT)
As I said before, We'll see.

MrStalker - February 29, 2008 03:17 AM (GMT)
My bet is on a BGE2-teaser on Ubidays in May. Then they will announce it. :D

The Infidel - February 29, 2008 02:13 PM (GMT)
I hope so....javascript:emoticon(':D')

BG&E Voyager - February 29, 2008 10:49 PM (GMT)
I sure do hope for a teaser, I swear i'll be so excited the rum will come straight out of my mouth :arr:

Lightweight - March 4, 2008 09:59 PM (GMT)
Any exact date on Ubidays? We should write it on our forum calendar.

I currently don't want to disappoint myself if nothing happens, but if they DO present a BG&E 2 teaser, I swear, I don't care if they make the release date "when it's done" (DNF'd), I would go in debt just to get the console(s) they say it would come on.

MrStalker - March 5, 2008 02:38 PM (GMT)
May 28-29

Black Noise - March 5, 2008 04:02 PM (GMT)
I'm not that optimistic, if ubi don't have it in the works (or at least in the plans) right now then we'd all have to wait until one of us crazy fans would get rich or win a lottery to personally finance a sequel.

Lightweight - March 5, 2008 04:06 PM (GMT)
That was the plan, Black Noise... before that fateful day...

You'd wonder when you knew what is possible
A good example http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/

So creating a game is possible (but not easy) with opensource stuff like the ogre engine, other free sound and physics engines.

The only real problem would be the whole license-thing, you'll have to rename and change the charakters, places and other stuff which would put up a connection with bge (but it's the story which is fascinating, isn't it?).
But maybe under special circumstances you could make the game and then a bge mod for it, which could (!) be okay...... offcourse nothing commercial

Luke-54 - March 12, 2008 10:32 PM (GMT)
At last there's a possible to make a virtual tour of Hyllis based on source engine.

Black Noise - March 16, 2008 12:45 PM (GMT)
Woden, i actually meant that (in the event of a rich bge fan) said fan would pay for the development and making of a sequel instead of ubisoft, hence personal financing.

G.A.Pster - March 16, 2008 09:31 PM (GMT)
Also there’s open outcast http://www.openoutcast.org/index.html

MrStalker - March 16, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
A fan-made open source sequel to Beyond Good & Evil would be possible with enough manpower (I would sign up for it), if Ubisoft signs of the rights to the franchise. And that's gonna happend about when hell freezes over and pigs fly.

BG&E Voyager - March 16, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
Ahh I looked up info on that game before, it looks really cool. Glad to see there's a fan-made sequel being made.

Who knows? Maybe if the said sequel would be so good they would be foolish not to sign the rights?

Still, the sequel has to be made first, and, amigos, due to the numbers of programming unskilled (currently, that is) - it's gonna take some time. I don't say it would be impossible - but it would take a lot of time.

Woden - March 17, 2008 10:19 AM (GMT)
I'm just curious...

How many people here know c++ and/or python?

How many 3d artists cruise around here?

Fomorian - March 17, 2008 10:26 AM (GMT)
I know Jagori knows about programming. He's not "awesomely" active currently, but he is a spec. Hoikas and CrystalSasha knew programming, also - none active currently. And as far as I know, Luke is the one for 3D graphics. Also, we've got Alexa :)

Woden - March 17, 2008 10:44 AM (GMT)
Well, i would sign up for a programming part and animations. But it would need much more 3d artists and programmers....

EDIT: I hope we're speaking theoretically here, this is not meant to be a start of a new project.

I just wanted to know how many people have programming and 3d skills...

well, I'm studying C++ and some more programming languages but only as part of my electronics program, which means its extremely basic, I'm pretty sure internet's got every tutorial needed to become a more or less adequate programmer, and I'll most likely learn an acceptable level of coding anyway (curiosity in my favor there plus it's easy).
to contribute to the actual question, as MrStalker said, to make a game manpower is needed, plus time and determination (which makes it in my opinion yet another highly unlikely, sorry for being pessimistic, if there'd be a project I'd do my best to help with whatever skill I have)

G.A.Pster - March 17, 2008 11:58 PM (GMT)
I was getting the hang of of Maya 8.0 but I can’t figure out how to get around the c*py guard to use it at home.

Woden - March 18, 2008 07:11 AM (GMT)
Maya is a pretty big chunk to get some modelling done. I use 3ds max and milkshape for creating stuff, it's much simpler.... :D

But the anim-tools in maya are excellent... -_-

MrStalker - March 18, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
Maya is meant for highly advanced professionals, you know like the guys creating Crysis. It might be a little bit overkill for a open-source project. Not to mention it's extremly expensive and to publish a game, open-source or not, you need to use properly licensed software, i.e. no warez.

EDIT: To be realistic the best fan project would be some simple kind of a game based on the XNA framework, since it doesn't require that much "professionalism".

Woden - March 18, 2008 09:51 PM (GMT)
We have it at work. No warez. That's only suicide if you publish even freeware made with it....

Every kid knows that -_-

As for freeware, better stick with milkshape or use a p3d editor from good ol' flashpoint and convert the models.....

:welldone:

EDIT: btw, crysis is art, yes! But not the content. It's the game's engine!!! That's the true piece of art in that game...

EDIT2: XNA? sounds boring....
1. you've got already a great freeware 3d engine: OGRE
2. The Havoc physics engine will be soon released for free (or a weaker version of it...)
3. What you need is a good sound-engine (now that's harder on the freeware side)
4. all has to be combined (that's were the REAL HARD work starts) so one can feed the sound, 3d and physics engine with the right info (and that's the point where the most projects break apart -> never to be underestimated but you don't need 300 spartan programmers either...)
5. And if one wants to make a network based game then one must also consider to add network support
6. Oh yes, almost forgot it, the AI (this is also a pain in the ass but mostly done in the end when working on a smaller project...)

so after all the list still is pretty long but one doesn't need a whole studio to make a good looking game with good gameplay (just a LOT of time, dedication, coffee and lack of friends, women, beer and tequilla. So far so good, but i would never like to give up beer...)

But that's what a programmer does, he transforms caffeine into code.:coffee:

EDIT3: Okay i know i'm getting annoying but i just realized that i sailed totally offtopic...

I hope that BGE2 WILL/MUST come in 2009 :'(

MrStalker - March 18, 2008 09:57 PM (GMT)
"At work" as in "not for home use".

Nobody knows even if hell exists, so we can't know anything about it's temperature.
And pigs could fly too if they had jet-boots. :D

So according to your comparison it's possible. But I still believe Ubisoft.

The Norse believed that hell is extremely cold. And pigs can fly if Obelix throws them :P
