Title: Hold your horses!
Description: BGE2 is NOT announced
MrStalker - June 9, 2008 03:05 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I know. What the fuck..?
According to Ubisoft UK Community Manager (screenname Ubi.Vigil) Ubisoft has announced no such thing as Beyond Good & Evil 2. They've just shown a trailer.
| QUOTE |
| Great to see all the enthusiasm for the video, however I should say that the video is exactly all that has been officially released so far and there's nothing else we can say at this stage. No game, title, information, dates or anything else is yet available, announced or confirmed. |
g314 - June 9, 2008 03:50 PM (GMT)
Well, then my question is: why even wasting time making a video and show a possible sequel to the audience if you won't make a game out of it?
All I can say is that the video is just an experiment to learn what people think after watching it, and, for what I know so far, feedback was quite positive. The video closed the Ubidays 2008 conference, and that sounded like Ubisoft wanted to stress it. Slapping a title like "ONE (The Pig)" makes it like there will be more videos. Besides, both Gamespot and Wikipedia included BG&E2, especially after the latest interviews to Ancel.
I'll keep crossing my fingers... ;)
MrStalker - June 9, 2008 04:11 PM (GMT)
Well, talking about Wikipedia, I was the one who created the article and wrote the majority of it so... but yeah, the general perception in the gaming community is that it is indeed Beyond Good & Evil 2, but that still doesn't make it official, Ubisoft is the ones calling the shots.
Although I think they haven't announced a title yet because they don't have one. Chances are they won't call it Beyond Good & Evil 2, instead they will call it something else to give the franchise a fresh restart.
Nimitz_3d - June 9, 2008 04:12 PM (GMT)
For sure, BG&E 2 is announced and Montpellier is working on it, the only thing is that ubi could change the name.
Denden666Piek - June 9, 2008 04:26 PM (GMT)
It's clear that pre-production was underway for a year, it's clear that they've got at least a very good idea on the graphical style of the game and they've made it clear to the audience that BG&E 2 is on the map in a big way. They cannot possibly be thinking of not actually making BG&E 2. They've got the money and the resources for this project, so there's no excuse.
MrStalker - June 9, 2008 06:16 PM (GMT)
Yeah, it's seems crazy to cancel now, but still. Ubisoft could easily just say "What are you talking about? We have announced no such thing! Beyond Good & Evil 2? What? Oh, you mean that trailer. It was just a demo to show off our new cool graphics engine for the next Tom Clancy game!"
Maybe I'm just nervous... but you gotta be when the official community manager says "We haven't announced it".
Let's hope they release an official announcement ASAP.

Right, denden!
If you go back to interviews with Guillemot, you notice he never calls BG&E 2 as such, and the trailer is just called "1 - The Pig". That may be because they're thinking of another name for BG&E 2 (which I would personally like, if they don't try too hard to make it appealing to everyone). They can't possibly just release a teaser trailer, get a whole fan base's hopes up to only shatter it for their own sick, twisted joy. That would be too risky and they would stand to lose a lot of fans. (I know they'd lose me. I wasn't much of a Ubi fan before BG&E, anyway.)
Besides, note that this is information from a "Community Manager" (basically, a forum administrator). He's bound to know about as much from BG&E 2 as Denden or Reaper here.
As it stands, I will remain cautiously optimistic (as I was since Guillemot's infamous accessibility comment), and wait until "2 - The Girl".

Agree. I think that Guillemot didn't explicitly said "Beyond Good & Evil 2" just for the sake of surprise for the fans at Ubidays. It sounded more like this to me: "Here our achievement on the next-gen graphics. Take a look on this trailer... Surprise! We're working on BG&E2! Ya happy?"
@ MrStalker: as for your Wikipedia article, I didn't notice any challenges of AFD, so I think Wiki considers it reliable and trustworthy. ;)
BG&E Voyager - June 9, 2008 08:49 PM (GMT)
Uhhh, wtf? The CEO Of Ubisoft himself said that this was the next project from Mr. Ancel, so there's nothing to worry about...at all :P This community manager is basically stating the obvious; I could've posted here that Ubi hasn't TECHNICALLY said exactly that BG&E 2 was in production...but what good would that do, plus it's more than implied from the CEO of Ubisoft himself (repeated statement just to emphasize :P) that the sequel is being made.
Technicalities, go figure
Denden666Piek - June 9, 2008 09:06 PM (GMT)
It's technically not Pey'j we saw in the trailer, it was just a pig with a remarkable resemblance to Pey'j, but it was just a pig. A talking, fly-eating pig, but just another pig nonetheless.
MrStalker - June 9, 2008 09:15 PM (GMT)
I'm just saying... it's not over yet. Although I belive that BGE2 is coming for sure, Ubisoft can play some dirty trick at us. Oh well. I guess I'm just to used dealing with Electronic Arts. Don't listen at me, BGE2 is coming, hurray!
What the community manager probably meant was that the title Beyond Good & Evil 2 is not official and the title hasn't been announced... yet.
G.A.Pster - June 10, 2008 03:43 AM (GMT)
Ubi always gives conflicting information.
They wouldn’t’ve shown it at ubidays if they weren’t going to make it.
Ralexand - June 10, 2008 07:49 AM (GMT)
Ubi, don't mess it up or I will go insane! :D No rly, it's just a community manager...so anyway, BG&E 2 will come! I hope :D
Alexa - June 10, 2008 08:16 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but what if it's in fact a trailer of the next Smash Bros, starring BG&E characters? That'd be a bastard move! :o

Denden666Piek - June 10, 2008 03:23 PM (GMT)
A Ubisoft ripoff of Super Smash Brothers starring the pig, the girl, the weird armless and legless fellow, the hyperactive blue guy, the rabbid, the assassin, the spy, the prince, the rabbid, the dogz, the catz, the rabbid, the United Assassin Association’s 11th ranked assassin, the anime ninja and the Word Coach.
Oh, and let's not forget the rabbid.
MrStalker - June 10, 2008 04:16 PM (GMT)
They are sooo cute ^_^
Until they go "Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!"
Nimitz_3d - June 10, 2008 04:43 PM (GMT)
Ubi must put bonus character in raving rabbids games, like jade, pey'j, and all ubisoft characters but in a more cartoony look.
I got a bad news for you :S, this is not an adventure game, not BG&E 2, it's only with Pey'j, it's call "PigZ" :sinister: What ? ^^
Denden666Piek - June 10, 2008 04:50 PM (GMT)
NEW!!! Pigz for Nintendo DS and PSP, also coming out for the Wii, with stunning CG cutscenes in between the cleaning up pigpoo and mudrolling gameplay with graphics just barely sufficient to make out the little piggie you have to take care of from the hand that you control onscreen to spank him when he's been bad.
(insert commercial with family sitting around a single Nintendo DS) "Mommy, he's been sucking flies again". Mom: (reassuring smile) "Oh don't worry, just spank him twice and say never to do that again".

Pey'j has the ability to turn into a DomZ-self and use all sorts of crazy powers :arr:

And another prediction becomes true. Thanks to The Predictor .
I'll keep praying for a Wii/PSP version, but on the meantime... I need more money for my PS3! (I decided I'm getting the PS3 version first... unless the Xbox 360 version proves to be vastly superior.)
BG&E Voyager - June 20, 2008 03:34 AM (GMT)
Hot damn! :D but I would really like a PC version! :( In the mean time, I should start saving up for a PS3 :P
Denden666Piek - June 20, 2008 06:15 AM (GMT)
I don't think anyone has to worry about a pc version, it will come. But are there still people believing that there is even the slightest possibility for a Wii-version?
Woden - June 20, 2008 09:26 AM (GMT)
PC, i just want it for PC, i'll buy 2 copies but i want it for PC. PC.

Not to offend, but you're talking about Ubi-let's port it to every console in existence-Soft. I know a Wii version is unlikely, but it's not impossible.
And if a PC version is announced (and chances are it will be announced), I can just call myself broke here and now. Broke... but happy.

No, it's "DAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!", cause they're Russian, everyone knows that.
Other than that, I completely missed this topic, and come back to find out it's been confirmed. I'd like to say: "As if there was ever any doubt..."

Alright then, it's not impossible, but highly improbable. And if they do port it, then I fear Michel Ancel will have nothing to do with it, because it simply won't be able to cope with the game's engine and he'll see his vision being reduced to garbage. Because you make no mistake, if there's a Wii-port, then it's the decision of money-grubbing Ubisoft executives, the same ones behind terrible ports like Far Cry on the Wii. Point is, BG&E2 is a true next-gen game, it won't work on the Wii.
Someday when it does come out on the Wii and it's actually amazing, then I'll regret ever having said all this, but until then...this is how I think about it.

Well actually Nintendo released a Zelda game shortly after showing that trailer at Spaceworld. That Zelda game was Wind Waker. It wasn't using the same graphics engine (obviously) but Zelda still came out. It's not like they showed that trailer and went *oops we're sorry, Shigeru decided he's done with Zelda* Mostly that trailer was showing off what the Gamecube could do.
My point is that even though the graphics changed, the game that trailer was for still came out, even if different from what we were shown.
And I have no worries about BG&E 2. Ancel has been fighting Ubi for years to let them green light a sequel and he finally got it. Rumor has it that because he had to work on King Kong, Ubi let him greenlight any project he wanted. Thankfully it was BG&e2 lol.
Denden666Piek - July 4, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)
If I take that Zelda Spacworld demo as an example, then I could assume that BG&E 2 is gonna be cell-shaded in the end. :P
lazermanx2 - July 5, 2008 08:24 AM (GMT)
All I'm saying is that a trailer can indeed completely verify that a game is coming out BUT what's shown in the trailer is not always final. There are many game trailers in which we see some feature, story element or graphics that rock, but the game might be changed.
I think this trailer definitely shows that BGE2 will be a reality, however the graphics may not look like that, the location, the character and the art style can still be changed.
I believe that Zelda trailer was released in '01 and Wind Waker was released in '03. They say a game requires 18 months of well staffed programming, texturing and testing time to be released, so 2 years was plenty of time for the Spaceworld trailer to evolve into the Wind Waker.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be released. It will, Ancel is rumored to have pushed Ubi really hard for this and he's going to get it, even if the graphics, art style, story, or anything is different from the trailer.
Trailers are not final, but they still usually point to a game release in the future.
MizukiXian - July 6, 2008 03:37 PM (GMT)
I agree with "lazermanx2".
All I have to say. :P
XX Humanoid - July 8, 2008 06:20 PM (GMT)
I agree too, but it would be really great if BGE2 had as good graphics as the trailer (or almost as good).
lazermanx2 - July 9, 2008 07:19 PM (GMT)
I think BGE2 will keep the graphics from the trailer
Denden666Piek - July 10, 2008 01:58 PM (GMT)
I think Ubisoft will want the kind of graphics from the trailer. Could Ancel be tricking them, wanting something entirely different in graphics style?
