Title: Favourite BG&E moment...
Description: What's yours?
tjoeltje - August 10, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
Well, what is your favourite BG&E moment? Or maybe you have more?
I have a lot of them... but one thing is sure... this is one of them!

My favorite part of the game is when you are running on the rooftops while being shot at then you make the leap of faith at Double H and he barely catches you. Sometimes I play through the game just to get to that point.
Denouement - August 11, 2008 07:30 PM (GMT)
Ahhh, I love that bit too. I think it's pretty iconic. It also gave me serious warm fuzzies. That smile! How could I not go "D'aaaaawwww?"
I also love Pey'j and Jade's reunion near the end of the game. Made me cry, it did.
tjoeltje - August 11, 2008 07:36 PM (GMT)
I haven't seen that bit at the end yet. But I'm sure I'm gonna cry! Game endings always make me cry, and only the thought of having BG&E completed will surely make me cry.
The_Evil_Reaper - August 11, 2008 08:30 PM (GMT)
I think the lighthouse scene is the best, that triggered my emotion more than any game ever did and is one of the reasons why I love BGE so much.
Kudos for this topic, I like it! :superstar:
BG&E Voyager - August 11, 2008 08:48 PM (GMT)
Meeting Double H for the first time is my favorite moment. He makes me laugh everytime!
"Jade...my name is Jade."
"AT YOUR SERVICE MISS JADE THYRUS!"
The_Evil_Reaper - August 11, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
My favourite Double H moment is the sliding down the shaft moment, that's so funny! :D
Denouement - August 11, 2008 11:50 PM (GMT)
I find it funny that a lot of the literature on the Internet focuses on Pey'j and almost completely ignores Double H, even though the fan responses here seem to indicate that Hub mugs all the best scenes. XD Seriously. Before I actually played the game, I had absolutely no idea that there were three main characters, and I actually believed he HAD died when the cutscene introducing him appeared, in "mauve shirt" fashion. <_< (I had obviously not read the IGN review, which mentions him... but still. After the sequel's trailer first came out, one of the gaming sites I tend to visit did a "Here's what you need to know about why this game is awesome and why you're a nimrod for not playing it" article which was all "OMGPEY'J," and not even a casual "Carlson and Peeters!")
In the interest of playing fair, I think the first time I said "Oh my gosh, I'm going to fall in love with this game" was after the first (or second) boss fight, with Jade and Pey'j hugging... You almost never see game characters who actually seem to, you know, really like each other. No sarcasm or cynicism necessary there--just a big hug and a few relieved yuks. Feel-good to the max.

Yeah, that scene made me cry. And the music I heard was great, really fitting with the scene!

I just love the intro, I just knew at that moment already that I was right to hype the game for myself when it was first announced. But I'm a sucker for beautiful and emotional cutscenes, so Jade kneeling before Pey'j at the end and crying over him and the destroyed Lighthouse really take the cake.
But the cake is a lie, don't forget that.

I remember wanting this game when it first game out but not buying it. Then years later getting it and having it sit on my bookshelf for a month or two before actually trying it. Then I beat it in one week and started to play through again, this time in French. It was and still is the greatest game I have ever played.
So it's the first mission, you're on that dark isle place (my memory is so bad). If you guys remember that rusty old locker room where you kick open the lockers and take a picture of a fly; I think there's one of those k-bups vending machines in there, too. Anyway, it's after you kick the little gate and leave. You're walking out, and to your right is this tunnel.
This is the best moment in the game, in any game, ever. Dang I wish I could find it on Youtube.
Okay, you've just come out of this dreary, brown, decrepit, music-less room. You're in this gray room looking down a tunnel at more grays and browns and greens and such. You know you're supposed to turn right into the tunnel, but to your left is this little pool of water and something you can't quite see, and this subtle blue glow. I almost didn't even stop, I almost didn't even look. But I turned left and checked out the pool.
It's a tiny room but
this music was composed just for it. The music starts, the water is glowing bright blue, there's this eight-foot high coiled shell on the wall. And if that's not enough, after a few seconds some kind of crustacean pokes its head out of the shell, and then pulls back in when it sees you.
It was so dam simple, but it was just so beautiful. I had to stop playing and just stand in that little room for ten minutes. And when I finally did leave, I did so reluctantly. It felt wrong to just walk out. Like I was worried I would never have the chance to come back.
It was always things like that that got me. Just beauty for the sake of beauty. The whale, the flying mantas, that ice-encased whale floating around in space. Even more than the story or anything like that, just the world itself was so, so,
so beautiful that it changed the way...
It changed the way I thought about beauty. It was like as soon as I hit the Blue room I got exposed to some emotion I hadn't actually felt before. Like, all of this came from Michel Ancel's imagination? All of this beauty?
Well thank God for Michel Ancel. I mean that. Thank you, God, for Michel Ancel, and this awesome video game he made. :D

It's "Midas" the guy who turned everthing to gold with his touch. Off course, he kinda died... Oh well! :P
But Hraes, I agree the general atmosphere of the game is so marvelous, it's beauty in simplicity unmatched. Yet, if you ask me about my favourite moment, I'm still going for the lighthouse scene, it just raises its head above the general level of awesomeness of the game.
Oh and welcom Deny! I is

Oooh, new gifts. Here, also a welcome gift from me...

Well, I guess you know what it is. Everytime I watch at it, I think of BG&E, and I get this wonderful feeling. Hope you can get that, too, by looking at it!
If you can't... it's still something nice... :)
Anyhows, welcome!

Are you talking about Midas? Midas wasn't Egyptian but a king in Crete. But that the game has a lot of references to the Egyptian culture is true: The DomZ architecture reminds me of the ones of temples and ancient tombs, and they've got a High Priest - with a huge, yellow eye which could hint at the well-known evil eye...

I just went out checking that little room again. It gave me a very strange feeling to be back there, and yes, also the feeling that I may never return.
To be honest, I nearly didn't even notice that room at first. My little sister was sitting next to me and she had to tell me that she saw that room, otherwise I'd maybe never discovered it.
Oh, by the way, does anyone know in which part of the game
this song is played?

this song is the one that plays in that room.
Now, to answer your inquiry, that song plays on the Lighthouse, when you're outside in the day.

I didn't hear any sound in the room, but maybe that's because I've already done that mission, and you may not hear that sound after that anymore.
I've never heard that song outside the Lighthouse. I thought
this one was the sound you heard over there.

Yeah Lightweight is right on that Safari track, and it even plays at night too.
Tjoeltje: that song you posted is played when you leave the Lighthouse for the first time with Pey'j to go to Mammagos. It's also played as the secong song for the end credits.

I really liked the opening sequence. I had heard so much about Beyond Good & Evil for years. Nintendo Power said they couldn't be my friend if I didn't own it in their 200th issue when they ranked BG&E as the 29th greatest game of all time.
| QUOTE ("Nintendo Power") |
| Michel Ancel's tragically overlooked opus was beautiful and moving, with a heroine that put the likes of Lara Croft to shame. If you don't own this game, we can't be your friends anymore. |
I finally bought it online. Once it came I was immediately treated to that opening scene. BG&E has been compared to the Zelda games quite often, but I know of no Zelda game that throws you into the action right off the bat like BG&E did. The music, easy-to-use controls, and sense of immediate jeopardy made it clear to me that this was a game I'd never forget.
I also like the scene in the mines when Pey'j shows off his jet boots. Makes me laugh every time.

Oh man...I have so many parts that I love...My favorite part, I think, is the ending sequence where Jade is lifted up by the High Priest and is healing everyone.
I also love the beginning where she passes out. XD Sometimes it makes me giggle, sometimes it makes me sad, but it always makes me happy, for some reason. I think it's Jade's optimism, actually.
"If it weren't for you, I....I'd......."
It just pulls a string in me. Maybe it's because she's so beautiful and strong and strong-willed and that even she's capable of passing out and not looking damsel-y doing it. XD That might be it.

Same here. Amazing closing scene indeed, almost asks you to play the game again... or fight for a good sequel. ;)
Another part of the game I really loved is when you're chased by the Alpha Sections and Jade is rescued by Double H. "D.B.U.T.T., Carlson & Peeters, p. 823!" And I also like when the stinking bucket-heads kidnap the children until Jade starts the Beluga. Lots of awesome cutscenes. I always played the game putting these two things together. B)
amskitty214 - September 17, 2008 11:09 PM (GMT)
::nodnod:: The chase scene is quite epic indeed.
XD Oh man, and I love the part when Pey'J is like, "If it wasn't for you, I'd have ended up on a silver platter with an apple in my mouth!" and Jade's like "Mmmm, shut up, you're making me hungry."
Makes me wonder if Pey'J lets anyone in the lighthouse eat ham...
Denouement - September 18, 2008 12:09 AM (GMT)
I've always wondered about that, actually. On Hillys, it seems to be appropriate (well, at least, if you're with friends) to make jokes about someone relating them to their non-bipedal animal relations. So is it approrpiate to make jokes about humans equating them to monkeys?
Pey'j does at one point say, "Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle--nothin' personal, Jade..."
The freezer in the Factory DOES have a dead cow in it, and we also have cow bartender Mo... Arrrg, the confusion!
tjoeltje - September 18, 2008 05:27 AM (GMT)
Lol, I asked myself the same a few days ago.
And don't forget the old slaughterhouses; they aren't used anymore, but they certainly were used at some point, or not?
So it is just quite confusing...
