For those unfamiliar, ZetaBoards is made by the same people as InvisionFree, so a transition would be pretty natural. I've started up a test board to see what it's like, and I gotta say...I actually really, really like it. If anybody wants to join and check it out, be my guest (and admins if you want to register there I'll admin you up so you can see the Admin CP...it's pretty nice). It's still totally customizable, we'll keep all our posts, members, pretty much everything if we transfer...yeah so you know my opinion on it. But if you wanna stay here then that's totally cool too!

As for the design, first of all, I think the current design is FANTASTIC. You guys did a really good job with it. That being said, if we switch over, while we can certainly do our best to port this theme over, it might also be cool to give ourselves another facelift. I'm thinking something a little more reminiscent of the BGE2 videos we've seen - so brighter, sunnier and dustier, but still with some green in there (as always :P ). And it's always an option to have multiple skins the member can choose between.

As for the theme, I say we keep this one as we develop the newer one, then when that's finished, we let the people choose via toggle.

Unnecessary if you ask me. I'm fine with this board and see no need to change, other than for professional reasons such as doing away with ads (which I don't see being a fiyarfaucks user), adding additional features, including more links and so on. The board looks great, it's functional, and it has everything we need. Until we actually get the website up, and we can streamline the forum even more, there is no need to change a thing. But I'm amenable to whatever you say.

Anything that could jeopardize the existence of the boards (no matter how small) is unacceptable.

These boards work fine and changing over is just asking for trouble, who knows what could happen and we’ll lose members!
not to mention the amount of work of transitioning the skin over.

Well we almost definitely won't lose members, they'll transfer over fine (or they should). I just thought an update might be nice, give the boards a fresh look - but if not, then we won't. No deadline really, I'm sure I can get a general vibe from the community in the next week or so.

What would be the benefits of Zeta?
I figure it has to be worth the risk, If nothing major improves it isn’t worth it but if there’s some big improvement it could be worth it.

So far I haven’t seen anything better, just different.

I don't see the point; having to go through the hassle of moving to a different forum that doesn't look much more advanced than this. Besides that, I have an attachment for this place! :P Like Duck, I say we just focus on streamlining the board and working on the website. Everything we need is right here.

Sorry, but I find it ironic that members of a site with "Revolution" in the title can be so anti change. :P

Anyways. It's not important that we change, but ZetaBoards is basically the newest version of InvisionFree. Besides, scientists say breaking out of your comfort zone is good for strengthening neuropathways in the brain. I take it that means we'll all be tremendously smarter if we change.

I don't know how good ZetaBoards are, but some of the forums here are really slow and eat CPU like nothing good - especially in the BGE2-section (Firefox 3.5b4, but also happened with 3.0). If ZetaBoards behaves at least a bit better, I'm definitely for it.

Well I could keep the poll open longer but I'd say that's a pretty clear vote for staying here. Alright! That test board will always be there if for some reason we ever feel the need to make a change, but for now we're sticking with InvisionFree. :welldone:

The thing is this is clearly a case of if we switched you guys will be saying, "this isn't too bad, why didn't switch sooner" a month from now. I Guarantee it.

ZetaBoards are made by the same people. It's really more of an update or upgrade to InvisionFree than a huge change. I mean if you liked Zathyus Networks' previous product, why not use their latest board? I see no good reason not to. besides the last forum I was on that changed went from ProBoards to phpBB. They couldn't convert anything; they had to start over completely, but everyone loved it and there was a huge increase in user activity. I really can't see a simple update like this doing any harm to the Revolution.

Well that was interesting timing. Just when I'm ready to close the subject, conan shows up strongly pulling for a move. I'll let the debate go a bit longer.


EDIT - I definitely agree with conan's point that a move could mean more members. Pretty much the number 1 tip for keeping a website/forum active is to keep updating, making things fresh and new. A move could be a strong sign that we're active, and we're up on the latest web technology.

AND EDIT - Plus, I can't emphasize enough that InvisionFree and ZetaBoards are quite similar, and the move will almost definitely be painless. There haven't been any reports of forums that got really messed up in the move, as far as I've heard. We'll have the same people, same posts, same forums, same smilies, all of that will be the same, just wrapped up in a new, more up-to-date skin.
