Well folks, here we are. Just a year ago we bore witness to the first concrete evidence that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is, in fact, being made. This place was not created in vain - our goal was reached. Of course, it might not seem like we did a whole lot. My initial goals for this place were, honestly, WAY way too ambitious. But I think what we accomplished was something very subtle, but ultimately powerful - we kept the fanbase alive. From our little corner of the internet to
bgemyth.net, and even to the
official boards, Beyond Good & Evil never faded into obscurity like it so easily could have. Instead, the fanbase has ever so steadily grown over the years, and I think we've had a lot to do with that.
But now that the game is official, and rumors and info are slowly leaking out, where do we stand? In my opinion, we're in the best place possible. The pressure is off - our first goal has been reached. But now instead of just dropping everything and moving on, our goal has simply changed: spread the word. And the best part is,
we're not in any hurry whatsoever. This game is still in pre-production, so there's no reason to rush into projects or do anything too ambitious in scope - we can take our time. Once more news about the game starts to come then we'll really kick into gear and start promoting this game, but for now, we play it cool. We're all busy with lives and such. Most of us...
So I think what we could use right now is a little bit of change. For starters, we should do some forum spring cleaning. Updating, re-organizing, archiving, all that jazz. I've created a topic for that little project
here. I'm also wondering if we might want to switch over to ZetaBoards for a bit of a change, especially now that we've got a permanent domain name. Cast your vote on that subject
here!
So we've just got that to think about now but once that's all said and done, there's just one major thing we should focus on. Yes, it's the W word.
The Website.
To be honest, this board was only ever intended to be a temporary place while we sorted out the website, and now 4 years later we haven't
quite got there yet. So once we get this place cleaned up a bit I'm gonna set the project up. We can put it out of our minds until then, but once we're set to start I have a much more coherent plan for getting it done, and getting it done at our own pace. It could take months, a year, doesn't matter, as long as we have a good functioning website around when info about the game starts flowing a bit more freely.
Other than that, whatever community-based fan projects we can find to do, perfect. This
BGE in Source project is a pretty cool idea - even if we don't get a fully functioning game working we could still make a cool tribute to the game, and this is exactly the sort of thing that could get us coverage on Kotaku or something (if it's really good). Another thought I had was doing some sort of collaborative fan project, something concrete that we could send to Michel Ancel and the team as a sort of Good Luck gift. Or card or whatever. The important thing, though, is to not try so hard to do incredibly amazing things that we get burnt out. We're a BG&E fan community first, and we'll stand by that.
Well that should be it. Again, be sure to check out these topics for the forum update project:
