Title: The Official E3 2009 Thread
Pey'j - June 1, 2009 02:44 AM (GMT)
It starts tomorrow! Post news, thoughts, expectations, etc. here as the week goes on!
Personally I don't have many expectations save two: 1) I of course want to see some more BG&E2, and 2) I really hope they show a bit more of Trico. That
one video that leaked recently is over a year old, I'd like to see something more up-to-date.
Fomorian - June 1, 2009 08:40 AM (GMT)
Let's see. My expectations are (except of course BG&E 2):
1) more info on Heavy Rain;
2) gameplay footage of Brutal Legend;
3) something about Deus Ex 3;
4) more info on The Secret World;
5)
TRINE!EDIT: 6) Psychonauts 2 announcement (;))
virumor - June 1, 2009 01:42 PM (GMT)
Hoping to see some more from Mass Effect 2, Alpha Protocol & Dragon Age.
Pey'j - June 1, 2009 08:50 PM (GMT)
Microsoft conference came and went. A nice combination of stuff I don't care about (last.fm, 1080p streaming *cough*BS*cough*, a new Halo, blah blah) and stuff so amazing I simply don't believe it works that well (motion controller, creepy boy thing that talks with you). Also, press conference speakers are the most boring people in the world.
Nothing I'm too excited about. Just a quick check around the internets shows that the motion controller and Milo are severely dividing people. I'm on the "meh" side of the spectrum.
BG&E Voyager - June 1, 2009 10:43 PM (GMT)
Splinter Cell Conviction looks incredible; I love how the objectives are pasted on different objects in the environment.
Glad to see others thought Milo was...creepy
Denouement - June 1, 2009 10:45 PM (GMT)
More Monkey Island hellz yeah.
My inner cynic was just rolling her eyes at the "Microsoft motion controller" announcement, though. Because bandwagoning worked out so well for them with the Zune.
BG&E Voyager - June 1, 2009 10:51 PM (GMT)
Final Fantasy XIII looked great too; the transition from a cutscene to battle was yum :ahh:

Monkey Island?! That completely flew over my head.
Pey'j - June 2, 2009 02:08 AM (GMT)
Oh and Ubisoft's conference =
MrStalker - June 2, 2009 02:11 AM (GMT)
Watched the conference, nothing new whatsoever, complete bore. Epic fail Ubisoft.
BG&E Voyager - June 2, 2009 02:14 AM (GMT)
Not even a mention of BG&E 2, and the only thing on Assassin's Creed 2 was a pre-rendered trailer! Though I think it was mentioned that there would be a demo or something available at E3 later?
Lightweight - June 2, 2009 02:26 AM (GMT)
Not even Joel McHale saved it? Guess I didn't miss much. Personally speaking, Ubisoft won't have my business for much longer (Going so deep into the most insipid casual games ever and whatnot), so no biggie.
I'm holding on for the Nintendo and Sony conferences tomorrow. They'll be quite entertaining.
BG&E Voyager - June 2, 2009 02:29 AM (GMT)
Yeah, can't wait for Sony! :D

BTW, here's a taste of Microsoft's E3 conference.

Excuse me while I laugh a bit. If I don't laugh I'll rage.
It's funny, you know. We get the biggest hope that we'll finally get out wishes... and the Montpellier studio begins getting swamped with work that NEEDS to be done in a timely manner. First RGH and now Tintin. (Nothing personal against Tintin, you know.)
Well... I'll see you in 2013 when we get a plausible release date for BG&E2. (Unless, of course, they can handle doing two projects at the same time, then all this whining would be pointless.)
Lightweight - June 2, 2009 05:30 PM (GMT)
Double post, and I don't care!
I've just come from nintendo's conference...
Wii Fit plus... yeah.
New Super Mario Bros Wii... 4 player co-op. It's like Zelda Four Swords in side-scroller mode. Looks fun, but no talk about possible online play.
Golden Sun DS... if you're a fan of the series.
Wii Vitality Sensor... to check your heart rate and help you relax. I'm still trying to figure out if it's just some sort of sick joke from Iwata.
Wii Sports Resort... aparently went hardcore, considering the video and the intro, which has you skydiving from the get-go. (I kid, I kid.)
More casual crap.
Super Mario Galaxy 2. That's right a SECOND 3D Mario platformer in a single console. Yoshi included. Awesomeness.
And the megaton of the show...
METROID!
by TEAM NINJA!
in 3rd person!
And it looks kickass!!!!!!!!!
Denouement - June 2, 2009 06:21 PM (GMT)
HOLY CRAP YOU GUISE THE NINTENDO CONFRENCE.
1) Not one but TWO NEW MARIO GAMES coming next year. One 2-d and one Galaxy sequel! That is officially Awesome.
2) Golden Sun DS! Also known with the subtitle Golden Sun DS: It Took You Long Enough! Those summons are looking taaaasty.
3) METROID OTHER M SWEET BEJEEBEUS JUICE. I am salivating. From what we've seen already it almost looks like it's taking a few cues from... killer7! This should be interesting.
Well, THIS was a good way to start the morning. Now come on, Sony and Microsoft, I'm halfway dead from nerdgasm already. Kill me! Give me the world's best heart attack at something that rockets this confrence from merely "indescribably awesome" to "Trascendent ineffable gamer nirvana!"
conan - June 2, 2009 06:40 PM (GMT)
I don't think any game announcement has ever surprised me like Metroid: Other M just did. The name alone is strange enough. What is it? 1st person? 3rd person? Sidescroller? Fully 3D?
Denouement - June 2, 2009 08:59 PM (GMT)
Gamer nirvana? Gamer nirvana.
I am one of the few people who doesn't care so much about the new Metal Gear Solid, but Sony just annouced a game that's basically "LittleBigPlanet: The Kart Racer!", and THE LAST GUARDIAN DUDE. I am ALWAYS up for some Team Ico goodness and this one not only looks fantastic, but it has GIANT FLUFFY ADORABLE DRAGONS. Oh, and some stealthiness from the looks of it.
Personally, I can't wait to see what's being done with Other M. I like Nintendo's willingness to experiment with Metroid, and from the looks of it, it kinda, like I said, reminds me of killer7--the hybrid 1st-person/3rd-person perspective, the "is this 3D or 2D or what," and the fact that it actually promises to have a STORY beyond "go kills some guise lol." Because it features Adam Malkovich alive and well, I'm willing to bet this is a prequel of some kind. Probably even pre-Prime.
Lightweight - June 2, 2009 11:04 PM (GMT)
Ok, here's the megaton from Sony's conference...
FINAL FANTASY 14 PS3 EXCLUSIVE!!!
[cheers]
and it's a MMORPG!
[...]
[boos]
Also, PS Wand, which, with the PS Eye, introduces true 1:1 gameplay to the PS3. Looks like it can be potentially better than Wii MotionPlus. (Let us not speak of the expensive lag-and-flailfest that is Natal.)

I don't care much for the new MGS either; the series ended with 4, so anything after is just...filler. That's why I didn't explode when it was announced a MGS game would be on the 360.
Good for Team Ico, those guys deserve to keep making more games!

So? That's what it takes to make one game these days. I can see it before me:
Ancel: "Finally we can make BGE2 as soon as we're done with RGH!"
Ubi: "Hold that a bit, we got word from Peter Jackson! He wants to do another game with us! It's about Tintin!"
"Ehrm, when are we supposed to do that?"
"Right after RGH of course."
"But, what about..."
"Screw that, that shit never sold anyways. It's Tintin ffs!"
"But..."
"Shut up and do what we tell you."

Let's see... 200 people... split between 3 projects... giving priority to those that NEED to be done within a certain timeframe...
Oh, just kidding. I said it before, didn't I? If I'm proven wrong, then all that whining was pointless.
However, there's also the added strain of the higher technology they need to work with... (I kid, I kid!)
And... as for the whole multi-disc FF13 on Xbox 360... It's expected the game to be around 4 discs... but no more. I swear, those people love to troll, or they don't know the nuances of compression. What was 5GB on the PS3 (which has a disc media that can handle uncompressed stuff to a point) could be as small as 1 GB on a X360 disc (maybe more, I'm not an expert.)

Unlikely, unless they use totally uncompressed textures and stuff on the PS3, which is just stupid.
BG&E Voyager - June 3, 2009 03:45 PM (GMT)
5 GB for the demo alone!? There are barely any games on 2 discs these days, but 4!? That's huge!

Blue Dragon on the 360 is 3 discs. Yet I don't really get why, cause all the places are accessible on all the discs. So it's just storyline, which isn't really that big.
Well to me at least, but maybe because it existed of "ZOMG EVIL GUY IZ TRYING TO KILL UZ! LTZ GET IM!". Anywho, 4 discs is not that big a surprise to me for an RPG like FF.
Denouement - June 3, 2009 11:09 PM (GMT)
Bruuuutal Legeeeend. Oh, this looks so awesome.
My personal opinion is that if more of your game disc space is taken up by CGI cutscenes than game, UR DOIN IT RONG, but that's just me. It's not like in-engine cutscenes are bad, especially when you're rockin' high processing power. They don't have to load as much, you don't need new models or a whole new team...
The_Evil_Reaper - June 4, 2009 01:12 PM (GMT)
Just checked out Brutal Legend... must have it! That game rocks! Jack Black in a Rock Game? Hell Yeah! :rulez: I mean... hold on a second...
So do you need the Guitar to play it? Or is there at least an option that you can?
Anywho, the whole CG-theory doesn't hold water for blue dragon, since there are only a few real CG movies in it, the rest is in game. Like I said, I don't really see what the hell they needed three discs for...
virumor - June 4, 2009 06:35 PM (GMT)
I liked what I saw about Mass Effect 2 & Dragon Age, Alpha Protocol disappointed me though - crap AI, animations & gunplay but hey "It's an RPG", right? :ph43r:

Schafer said they tried to implement the use of Guitar Hero guitar controller, but failed - they couldn't find a good way for changing to easily switch from standard controller to the guitar and back. So only standard X360/Sixaxis controller.
