Title: BG&E 2 may NOT be released after all.
Description: (hold your rage for a sec...)

I'm not sure where in the rank of authority within Ubi does this Laurent Detoc is, but he is not outright denying (nor confirming) a sequel to BG&E. He's just saying it's something "for the future".
Anyway, does it surprise you that I hold no faith for Ubisoft at all?
Blink - July 23, 2009 05:20 PM (GMT)
Since the beginning i believe BG&E 2 will be a animation movie or something like this. With Ubisoft's new orientation in animation/movies, and since no official announcement about BG&E 2 has been done, i really think BG& E 2 will not be a game like we all expect.

Well that sucks i guess.
BG&E Voyager - July 23, 2009 10:24 PM (GMT)
This is no different than when that "representative" of Ubisoft went onto the official BG&E forums and said that technically there is no BG&E 2 yet. If you show a teaser at a game conference that clearly contains characters from a previous game, aren't you incinuating to the audience that a sequel is being made? Ubi is just dicking around.
jade123 - July 23, 2009 10:53 PM (GMT)
There is going to be no BG&E2 game, How do you know it is going to be a movie?
MrStalker - July 24, 2009 09:20 AM (GMT)
Well, the trailer at Ubidays 08 is only of a "amazing new technology" as far as Ubisoft is concerned, and the leaked trailer is just another tech demo... so as I've said before until we have a official release date set in the near future chances are Ubisoft will screw us over... again... and again.

IG: It's always a bit risky for a publisher to push out a new IP, not knowing how the market will react to it. Luckily for Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed did well so now it's a franchise... LD: Yes, that worked out, but it doesn't work out every time, and sometimes you come back to an IP that didn't work because you still think it could have – like Beyond Good and Evil, which was leaked, so now people know we're working on a new one. Whether or not it comes out remains to be seen anyway, but we didn't want to abandon that IP because it has a cache and authenticity about it. There's something very pure about that game and it's too bad that we were not able to build it as an IP at the time.
IG: Most publishers make decisions based on sales, so what made Ubisoft decide to pursue Beyond Good and Evil again? LD: Well, I didn't say there's definitely going to be another game. I said something had leaked, which means we've been working on some Beyond Good and Evil stuff, but whether there's going to be another game or not, that's something for the future. But getting to your question as to why there's work on the IP again, it's a creative people business; the creative talent is interested in it and possibly exploring how to do it from a new angle.
IG: So regarding that leaked Beyond Good and Evil trailer, when things like that happen, people sometimes suspect that it's a deliberate leak as a way to do some viral marketing for the product. LD: For this, that was definitely not the case. I'll tell you, I didn't know about the leak and neither did my boss. The problem when you do stuff like [intentional leaks] is if you get caught it's really bad. Looking back at our history, I don't remember anything we've done of that nature. |
Slavka - July 24, 2009 10:11 AM (GMT)
Ai... It's now official - I hate Ubisoft.
jade123 - July 24, 2009 02:27 PM (GMT)
What there is not going to be a BG&E2 game! Is that what you guys are saying?

Well, even though Ubi technically gave no release date and have said that they aren't technically working on a BG&E 2 game, they should realize the anticipation and excitement they generated. They should have come out right away from the beginning and said that this isn't BG&E 2, instead of baiting us like we're morons. My hope is that they figure out that if they don't work on BG&E 2, that's a big loss for them.
The_Evil_Reaper - July 24, 2009 04:29 PM (GMT)
I tend to agree with B-Gev here, even though I understand the points of the others. The hype the possible sequel the game generated shows great potential for sale rates. It's probably not going to be "Fifa" sales, but I think it will be profitable. Just think about all the game magazines that will surely put it on their front page? All the forums and websites?
And the "real" sales of Beyond Good & Evil are unknown, so I believe that they're a lot higher than people think. With the game it's current "cult" status, the sequel is likely to be a success in the sales section. I for one will buy the game no matter what the reviews say.

That's right - after a couple of months the sales of one game are rarely monitored and become unknown - especially if the game wasn't an immediate success.
As for the news - I'm going to wait until some suit says outright "We are NOT developing the sequel to Beyond Good & Evil" (like SEGA official said about the Aliens RPG), before I'll start worrying.

That's not the point. Surely they do admit that it's indeed BGE2, and that they are working on it. But just because a game has been in development for some time and almost has finished gameplay it doesn't mean it will be released. There are tons of games going half-way through the development cycle only to be canned at the last moment, and for most of the times nobody ever finds out about it.

Well, the guy is perfectly consistent what has been officially announced so far, which is nothing. How more official does it get than the friggin CEO of Ubisoft's biggest market? Come on, don't put your heads in the sand. See it from the bright side: The game is in development and hopefully Ubisoft will come around to set a official release date sometime within a year.
Ralexand - July 27, 2009 06:40 PM (GMT)
Its official if there is a press release or a real fu***** statement on their website.

JFSOCC - July 28, 2009 08:05 PM (GMT)
or you could find that liottle film of the angry german kid wrecking his keyboard.
but no, I hink this interview is meant to create public outcry and more interest.
if the first clip released (1. the Pig) is a tech demo, then Ubisoft ids behind the times, as it looks like an adaptation of the outdated oblivion engine, or maybe of the assins' creed engine.
it was certainly not the engine that was the cause of the applause when the clip was shown, and Ubisift is not stupid enough to not realise that
Duke - July 28, 2009 10:58 PM (GMT)
Man, I think all of this is a piece of bullshit.
All these PR people say the something about BGE2, in interviews, forums and stuff.
I think they don't know what's going on with BGE2, so they just don't talk about and avoid it, maybe add a bit of mysteriousness.
And about it not being a game, that's not going to happen, remember the interview with Yves Guillemot? He said this GAME was meant to be a bit more accesible.
And remember what Ancel said in some french interviews and workshops and whatnot. About this time adding this and that to the GAME.
I remain fully optimistic and am not even slightly affected by this news.
But still it drives me mad that they are torturing the fans like this. Just fucking say it's a game and coming out or say it's canceled. Don't fuck around with the people who made BGE big to begin with.
Anyway, end of rant. :arr:

Here goes the conspiracy theories again. Maybe, the guy is just telling the truth. The game has not been officially announced yet. Why wouldn't they? Because there is nothing to announce yet. And even if you consider the Ubidays-trailer an announcement, the game hasn't left pre-production yet. Which means it can be easily scraped. What Ancel and Guillemot has said about the game is what they want it to be, a concept, and they even conflict each other.
I'm not saying BGE2 will be canceled. That would be terrible and a disgrace. But don't be to surprised if it does get put on the shelf (again) for them to make another more commercially viable game instead. That's all I'm saying.
g314 - July 29, 2009 01:12 PM (GMT)
Mr. Stalker, didn't Christophe Heral himself tell you they're indeed working on BG&E2? I know it wasn't official, but still... should be a sort of confirmation, shouldn't it?
MrStalker - July 30, 2009 05:59 PM (GMT)
Read the post again. I've never said they aren't working on it.
G.A.Pster - August 12, 2009 10:14 PM (GMT)
It seems like employees who don’t know what they’re talking about are always making announcements about games.
And besides they’re all very open-ended answers anyway.
I wouldn’t worry about this.
Teaser92 - August 15, 2009 07:14 AM (GMT)
I don't think this is official either. Michel Ancel loved BGE. He was gutted when it didn't do better. BGE could have been even better if Ubi didn't have so much influence on it. He really is not ready to give up on it yet.
Besides I thought Ancel said they had been given complete freedom from ubisoft, so he could make the game any way he wants?
JINX - August 18, 2009 02:43 PM (GMT)
Giiirrr! Things do happen, they had the trailer, but lost it. Maybe they will try again, maybe a few years. Or if this isn't true at all. This did happen to SSBB, because Snake was from Sony, they needed to pay money, and make deals... So they almost didn't make Brawl.

Exactly. There is no way they would release a trailer to E3 and then decide not to make the game that the trailor was for. Especially when it gained so much applause
JINX - August 18, 2009 09:51 PM (GMT)
Yup, thanks for teh agreement. They are going to make the sequel... They have to, that have two trailers out, and it can't be bailed so early

Stop the 1337über1337 l33t leet speak.
First of all they werent really a trailers.
One was teaser and the second one was leaked.
About 1st trailer:
Well the teaser didint really reveal anything.
Only that 2 main characters are back and that they were somehere in the middle of the road.
I mean that dosent give a clue where the game is set or whats the story.
But it dosent have to reveal because its a teaser though.
About 2nd trailer: "leaked trailer that some of you might call it"..Its not a trailer.
Its pre renderd and only shows what Ubisoft directors can make of it.
If it was a leaked trailer or whatever someone might call it,then it would appear in the NET with bad quality or in pictures or in hints.
But getting it in high quality isint really leaked.
I think the second trailer was pre rendered and they revealed it because to get more attention.
I guess ubisoft wanted to showoff with their new engline or createivity.
Well it kinda worked anyway.-
Sorry for bad english.

shall I make a standard letter we can all mail to the Ubisoft HQ demanding they give us some clarity?
