Title: Chrome vs Firefox

Verde_Creed - December 1, 2009 05:09 AM (GMT)
At first I was skeptical that anything can take down much much beloved Firefox. There were just too many extensions and it was just too fast.

But now I discovered that Google Chrome is FASTER, and that it loads MUCH FASTER.

So, what's your opinion? I just made Chrome my default and will be giving it a test run for the next few days.

Chrome is the web browser to use if you like Big Brother. There is a free derivative of Chrome that doesn’t have all its evilness though.

I use IE, I would use Opera, but you can’t move about on pages until it’s done loading (which sucks with 56k)

I use opera mobile on my PDA.

Care to explain?

Pretty sure Chrome is already free. And totally AWESOME. Firefox has all its fancy gadgets and extensions but I really could care less about those, and in fact I find them kind of annoying. Chrome just looks so much nicer and runs so much better. FTW!

And I'm pretty sure GAPsters's comment on Big Brother is referring to the fact that Google is trying to take over the internet and/or gather any and all available personal information about you through Gmail and Google Voice and whatnot. That, or it's for people who watch the Big Brother show. One of the two.

I’m referring to 1984, not the insipid TV show.

From wiki:

“Chrome sends details about its usage to Google through both optional and non-optional user tracking mechanisms”

However if you like Chrome at least a couple of derivatives of it don’t have the tracking; SRWare Iron, and Chromium.

Hmm, for now. I kinda like the change. I recently re-did my desktop interface to be much cleaner and chrome's design seems to fit in a bit better, but maybe that's just because I'm on a kick to try new things out at the moment!

I generally find that aesthetics harm functionality; I like high contrast and simplicity (that’s why I have my PC set in classic mode).

Vista and 7 are horible (in the default modes) too much shininess and transparency in the way.

I trust Mozilla with my internets, but really, so long as you don't use IE you're not hurting anyone.

Also, APNG support, it's the way of the future, man.

To me aesthetics can often add functionality. Graphical User Interface (An OS) instead of command prompt is a great example! Vista was a bit of a nightmare at first, but Windows 7 to me made it all better.

But for the most part, I totally agree. I want function over form any day.

Yeah having nothing but command lines would suck.

What improvements in GUI does 7 have over XP?

My dad just bought a PC with Windows 7, and I haven’t seen anything that I’d call an improvement.

I use Opera on my PDA and on my ThinkPad. I also have Mozilla but i use it rarely (like right now for example). Chrome is a catastrophe when it comes to data security and privacy, stick with Mozilla, guys.

EDIT: And i'm also more on Gap's side when it comes to aesthetics. Design is way overrated nowadays. Sure, it can be helpful but when i look at the current fads i see cellphones that are unable to hold out longer than 2 days before the battery is empty or OS's with so much effects that i have a feeling that i'm watching a damn movie instead of using a computer.
I stick to Vista in classic mode for work and to good old Opensuse and Ubuntu for home usage.

I'd say the taskbar is a huge improvment over Vista. The programs are no longer text, but icons. An you finally have the ability to rearrange them. Also, the jump menus are great once you get used to them and really make browsing quicker. Organizing windows is quicker too with the snap feature. And there are even more with the use of keys, like peeking at other windows and even the desktop. It's small but bold changes that really stand out against Windows Vista. (There I go sounding like a salesmen again...) XD

Also, thanks for info about security of Google Chrome, I'm enjoying my tenure with Chrome ATM, but I'm already missing my extensions. Adblock and Web Developer to be precise. And there are others like gamefox and text to link that I want as well. So, looks like I'll be going back at the end of the week, but I might just keep em' both for good measure!
