Title: Portal
Ugly Duck - July 20, 2006 11:13 AM (GMT)
Half-Life 2 with better puzzles, nicer graphics, improved AI and physics... oh yes, and you can also create your own portals. I'm so intrigued and interested in this game and i look forward to the demo with immense impatience :).
I think this video can explain it better than i can:
http://www.valvesoftware.com/ep2/teaser/po...aser01_720p.wmvAlso, there's a "demo", or rather, free game, showcasing the functionality and potential of such a game. consider it the original version of the game, had it been made into a full fledged game at that time.
Narbacular DropI played it through and one of the things i loved about it was the flexability to use different tactics in the puzzle solving. To give an example, there is one section where you have to climb a ledge ladder, while large indiana jones style balls roll at you. typically, you're expected to climb it by putting one portal on the level that you're on, one portal on the floor above, and then walking through the portals, repeating this sequence on up the room. However, it is also possible to place a portal "inside" the other portal. so, you set the two portals at different points, allowing you to look into one portal and see what is on the other side of the other portal, and then (instead of going through the portal and appearing at point B) placing the second portal at a point that you can see through the portal connection (but most likely couldn't see or reach from where you stand). This adds varienty and tactics to it, because there may be a situation where simply placing the portals and walking through would be too dangerous, because of threats surrounding the area you need to get to, and the only way to safely reach the area that you want is to replace your second portal.
Confusing? well, you'll see what i mean when you play the game.
Another clever tactic is the ability to let objects traverse through the portals. The rolling balls can easily be avoided by simply placing a portal on the floor along the path that they roll and a portal on the wall somewhere else, and theyll fall through the portal and then fly out the wall into the large lava pit. you then swiftly relocate your floor portal to somewhere else and contiue on your journey! it's very clever and it has a wide range of possibilities, so i suggest that you check it out :)

Wow, this new concept is very interesting. However, the use of these portals really confuses me  I almost got a headache trying to keep up with what was going on in the video...still cool though.

I watched this trailer yesterday, portal looks really cool...valve is the best! :D

It looks very neat, I think the gravity gun will be surpassed by this new thingamajig in coolness factor. A Half-Life 2 beater might already be here in the form of Prey. Now that game also sounded very interesting to me. With gravity defying shootouts, portals and a sick biomechanical environment.

Playing with physic can be fun. But i wonder how they will put it in Half Life: episode 2, beacuse thanks to this weapon you can go everywhere. So how they will build maps.
Ralexand - September 4, 2006 10:26 AM (GMT)
prey is definitaly no Half-Life 2 beater
G.A.Pster - September 5, 2006 03:55 AM (GMT)
Yeah it looks cool and it’s coming to 360 too (combined with episode 2 (I hope it’ll have episode 1 too)
BG&E Voyager - September 5, 2006 04:45 AM (GMT)
I viewed a video on Gamespot...i'm pretty sure it comes with Episode 1 as well :) What a package! :D

Orange Box looks like a total winner, maybe I'll get it too.
Ralexand - October 17, 2007 09:33 PM (GMT)

I disagree, I think lot's of games are funny or at least have funny elements. Even when there completely serious, you can make a lot of fun yourself(sometimes even more than in the funny games). Still, funny games are good, and there can never be enough of them! :D
BG&E Voyager - October 19, 2007 08:02 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't really expect funniness in a game like Portal, but hey, that's awesome :welldone:

I don't want to spoil anything, therefore you have to try it by yourself to see the "funniness " :D

I have lots of funny games on the Gamecube, especially the few Gamecube RPG's that exist are so incredibly funny.
Luke-54 - October 20, 2007 03:32 PM (GMT)
Finally i've played Portal! But i have finished it in 3h... Nice song at outtro BTW.
Ralexand - October 20, 2007 03:51 PM (GMT)
Yeah it's quite short, but the end is incredible and I love the Credits Song
Eupho Guy Steve - October 25, 2007 12:13 PM (GMT)
Very much agreed, Ralexand, that credits song is hilarious, pity about the game length though, although it keeps it from getting old before the game finishes. One thing that was in Narbacular Drop that wasn't in Portal, was the ability to shoot through a portal with the portal gun to create a portal on the opposite wall, generally at a position you can't get to by standing on the ground, I mean, gunfire/rockets can get through, why can't portal beams?
Ralexand - October 25, 2007 02:29 PM (GMT)
Who knows :D, maybe it would be too easy... ^^
Ralexand - March 3, 2010 08:52 AM (GMT)
New Portal Transmission Update!lol, I love valve, that's the weirdest shit i have ever seen.
G.A.Pster - March 6, 2010 04:46 AM (GMT)
I’ve been meaning to pick up Half Life Orange box (which has portal),
but I’m kind of reluctant because I figure once Half-Life 2: Episode Three comes out there’ll be a Half Life Orange box deluxe version or something that has it built in.
I hate episodic games.
Ralexand - March 6, 2010 11:21 AM (GMT)
If you really wanna wait so long for Episode 3 ...
btw ..
PORTAL 2 IS ANNOUNCED OMGOMGOMGOMG! :D
G.A.Pster - March 7, 2010 05:23 AM (GMT)
I wait years for games unless they’re absolutely must have like Fallout 3 or BG&E 2.

Y'know, they really could finally make that Episode 3. I started playing Half-Life 2 twice, but each time I left (surprisingly, always in the same spot), when I remembered I will hit a cliffhanger sooner or later.
Now Portal 2, that's some spectacular news. It was one of those unforgettable original indie games like World of Goo and Machinarium, and if the sequel is half as good as the original, we're up for some awesome piece of gaming :welldone:
Jagori - May 12, 2010 08:33 PM (GMT)
Since I already have the game, I can't tell if it's a temporary license or a full license on a limited-time offer... but
Portal is free right now to celebrate its Mac release. Perfect opportunity to check it out.
Ralexand - May 13, 2010 12:10 AM (GMT)
Indeed. its free Until May 24th. If you get it now it will stay free for ever. great thing :D
