Title: ißt und frißt...was ist die unterschied?

Farben - February 19, 2007 02:31 PM (GMT)
A question for all you German-speakers on the forums - whats the difference between the words "ißt" and "frißt"? I know they both mean some form of "eat" but...I'm scoring badly on tests because I don't know the difference!

daidalos - February 19, 2007 02:57 PM (GMT)
Well, you use the word "ißt" when you talk about people who eat.
"Frißt" is used when you are referring to animals.
I wouldn't advise you to say "frißt" in combination with humans because it will most probably have an insulting effect.

hmm...I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

Ralexand - February 19, 2007 03:10 PM (GMT)
yeah exactly :D

sjaak - February 20, 2007 02:41 PM (GMT)
now lets make a nice discussion out of that question or close the topic :P

Ralexand - February 20, 2007 03:22 PM (GMT)
I think it isn't common in this forum to close topics, if the discussion is finished :)

The_Evil_Reaper - February 20, 2007 08:06 PM (GMT)
I kinda agree with Sjaak here, it was never meant to be a discussion it was a simple question, there's no more need for this topic to exist really...

So if nobody minds I close it and move it to the reaper in let's say... 48 hours. If someone does mind, you have 48 hours to post.... starting now!

*clicks stopwatch*

Ralexand - February 20, 2007 08:38 PM (GMT)

We can close that topic, if reaper want it to be closed....it hasn't any sense anymore, you are right.

G.A.Pster - February 21, 2007 12:16 AM (GMT)
how do you pronounce the
ß (AKA, Latin sharp S)

Wouldn’t
Ißt sound the same as ist?

Ralexand - February 21, 2007 06:17 AM (GMT)
you are right, Isst sounds similar to Ist

and the ß is really the sharp s (Eszett)." In German orthography, the letter alternates with ss under certain conditions, and it is replaced by ss when there is no ß available."

And we mostly write Isst :D, not Ißt.

sjaak - February 21, 2007 08:12 AM (GMT)
