Well folks, here we are. Just a year ago we bore witness to the first concrete evidence that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is, in fact, being made. This place was not created in vain - our goal was reached. Of course, it might not seem like we did a whole lot. My initial goals for this place were, honestly, WAY way too ambitious. But I think what we accomplished was something very subtle, but ultimately powerful - we kept the fanbase alive. From our little corner of the internet to bgemyth.net, and even to the official boards, Beyond Good & Evil never faded into obscurity like it so easily could have. Instead, the fanbase has ever so steadily grown over the years, and I think we've had a lot to do with that.

But now that the game is official, and rumors and info are slowly leaking out, where do we stand? In my opinion, we're in the best place possible. The pressure is off - our first goal has been reached. But now instead of just dropping everything and moving on, our goal has simply changed: spread the word. And the best part is, we're not in any hurry whatsoever. This game is still in pre-production, so there's no reason to rush into projects or do anything too ambitious in scope - we can take our time. Once more news about the game starts to come then we'll really kick into gear and start promoting this game, but for now, we play it cool. We're all busy with lives and such. Most of us...

So I think what we could use right now is a little bit of change. For starters, we should do some forum spring cleaning. Updating, re-organizing, archiving, all that jazz. I've created a topic for that little project here. I'm also wondering if we might want to switch over to ZetaBoards for a bit of a change, especially now that we've got a permanent domain name. Cast your vote on that subject here!

So we've just got that to think about now but once that's all said and done, there's just one major thing we should focus on. Yes, it's the W word. The Website.

To be honest, this board was only ever intended to be a temporary place while we sorted out the website, and now 4 years later we haven't quite got there yet. So once we get this place cleaned up a bit I'm gonna set the project up. We can put it out of our minds until then, but once we're set to start I have a much more coherent plan for getting it done, and getting it done at our own pace. It could take months, a year, doesn't matter, as long as we have a good functioning website around when info about the game starts flowing a bit more freely.

Other than that, whatever community-based fan projects we can find to do, perfect. This BGE in Source project is a pretty cool idea - even if we don't get a fully functioning game working we could still make a cool tribute to the game, and this is exactly the sort of thing that could get us coverage on Kotaku or something (if it's really good). Another thought I had was doing some sort of collaborative fan project, something concrete that we could send to Michel Ancel and the team as a sort of Good Luck gift. Or card or whatever. The important thing, though, is to not try so hard to do incredibly amazing things that we get burnt out. We're a BG&E fan community first, and we'll stand by that.

Well that should be it. Again, be sure to check out these topics for the forum update project:

+ Forum Clean-Up
+ Re-design?

Also, for those concerned about the money, I was basically thinking of saving it until we start to work out website details. That's where it would be the most use, if we want to go for hosting or special services or whatever. So for right now it's in a sectioned-off part of my account where it will NEVER be touched unless we ALL come to a consensus on what we should do with it. I will never ever ever spend it unless it's on something we all agree on. So don't panic! All is well. :welldone:

Ok wow. I wasn't here for a month and suddenly ... SO MANY CHANGES!!! I can't believe it, but yes .. the Website is the most, most, most important part. If there are the first "real" news about BG&E2, then we really need a website.

And I want to thank Pey'j and alle the other Member who are keeping this alive. Now I have to read like 1000 Posts :D

Wow

That's was a lot! Anyway, well written and I agree with most of it.
I think our biggest successful projects were:
- the new forum skin
- hillian wiki

Both worked out great, only the hillian wiki left with the guy owning it. But it was so great... I still cherish hope that we can restore it some day. The Forum skin is something I'm particularly proud of, it just gives us a more professional look, which I really like. I thank Hraes for putting so much effort into it, and I had a lot of fun working on it too.

One goal we did achieve: spread the word. It might not have been the biggest campaign in history, but due to fanart, silly comics, music videos and hyping everywhere we go, we did get more people to notice BGE. And that's never a bad thing.

It's unfortunate that a lot of projects died in their tracks, there's usually 1 or 2 persons really enthusiastic about it, but once they come into a busy spell, the project slows down before ever really getting started. If anything, perhaps we should make some sort of schedule where you just devote your entire day to the revolution. Working in groups(sometimes 2 is enough) really works better. I experienced that working with Hraesvelgr, he just really worked his ass off, and I helped where I could and so did the other admins. The result is kick ass!

Anyway, I'm saying, I will always try to devote my time to revolution where it's possible. Just give me something structured to work on, else I drift off into randomness. At your service! :mash:

Wow. Have your internet only for three weeks offline, and you miss the world - or rather, a forum - changing into a new outfit.
